How does teeth whitening work?

Over time, it is natural for our teeth to darken. This is often caused by stains from things we eat and drink, such as coffee, tea, red wine, or from tobacco use. These discolorations are often impossible to remove through toothbrushing alone.

Professional teeth whitening is the best solution to restore the teeth’s original, bright luster. At our dental practice in Fuengirola, the process is both simple and safe:

  • Professional Cleaning: The treatment always begins with a thorough check-up of your dental health and a professional cleaning. We ensure that your teeth are completely free of tartar, which is essential for an optimal and even whitening result.
  • The Whitening Process: A few days after the cleaning, an effective yet gentle whitening agent is applied in several sessions until we reach the desired shade.
  • Long-lasting Results: The effect is individual, but results typically last for a couple of years. Naturally, your lifestyle and oral hygiene habits play a major role in how long the brightness lasts.

Warm Easter greetings,

The Team at Clinica Dental Noruega in Fuengirola

Closed February 27th.

On Friday, February 27th, Clinica Dental Noruega will be closed as we get an early start on celebrating Día de Andalucía. Why that? (Andalusia Day), which falls on a Saturday this year.

Why do we celebrate this day? This day commemorates the historic referendum held on February 28, 1980, when the people voted for Andalusia to become an autonomous region in Spain. It is a day filled with pride for our region’s culture, history, and traditions. You will see the green and white flag flying everywhere, and it is customary to enjoy a traditional breakfast of toasted bread with olive oil.

We will be back to our regular hours on Monday, March 2nd. If you would like to book an appointment while we are closed, please email us at  info@clinica-dental-noruega.com.

We wish all our patients a wonderful weekend!

Toothbrush Replacement Day

Time to update your bathroom cabinet? 🪥

February 13th marks the unofficial, yet very important, Toothbrush Replacement Day. The purpose of this day is to remind us that a toothbrush doesn’t last forever and that good oral health starts with the right tools.

A toothbrush should be replaced approximately every three months, or sooner if the bristles start to fray. A worn-out brush not only does a poorer job of removing plaque, but it can also become a breeding ground for bacteria. A great tip is to also replace your brush immediately after you’ve been sick to avoid reinfection.

Celebrate the day by giving yourself (and your teeth) a fresh start with a new brush!

Remember to use the 2-2-2-2 method when brushing your teeth:

  • 2 centimeters of toothpaste on the brush.
  • Brush for 2 minutes.
  • Do it 2 times a day!
  • Do not eat for 2 hours after brushing your teeth.

Santa Apolonia – The Patron Saint of Dentists

Santa Apolonia is known as the patron saint of both dentists and anyone suffering from a toothache. Her feast day falls on February 9th and is an important date for the dental profession in Spain.

Legend has it that Apolonia was a Christian woman in 3rd-century Alexandria who refused to renounce her faith. As punishment, her teeth were shattered, which is why she later became the symbol of dental health. In Spanish folklore, it has long been a tradition to pray to her—”¡Santa Apolonia!”—to seek relief when a tooth aches. However, at Clinica Dental Noruega, we recommend focusing on preventive dental care instead. Brush your teeth at least morning and night, and visit your dentist annually for a check-up and cleaning. Prevention is both cheaper and better than fixing damage caused by neglect.
